Abstract

Studies on childhood in South America are gaining more prominence in scientific publications as well as in the public agenda in the region. This study involved an exhausting data search of publications in Spanish-speaking countries that focus on children using the sociology of childhood perspective. The countries with the highest number of publications in this area were Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The overall purpose of the research is to identify the academic researchers that are leading the discussion on children and childhood within South America, the nature of their work, and how their work relates to the areas of children’s protagonism and participation.
