Abstract

OCHOA, María Laura. Participation and progressive autonomy of the adolescent. School democratization in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.1, pp.125-137. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.17107.

The following investigation focuses on the recognition of adolescents as legal subjects that enjoy full citizenship and a progressive exercise of their autonomy. Was it possible for schools to adapt their rules and practices to meet this conventional standards? By collecting and analyzing the coexistence rules of Buenos Aires’ Northern Metropolitan Region secondary schools, as well as by interviewing and surveying the members of the educational community, this study gives a thorough description of that gap. The participation of adolescents in the design of those guidelines regulating their school life and the way their intervention is managed do not yet meet the standards set out by the Convention on the Rights of the Child for full citizenship in childhood.
