TOMASINI, Marina. Disputing sexuality: Inter-generational relationships, sex education and secondary schools in Córdoba, Argentina. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2024, vol.22, n.3, pp.25-49. Epub 16-Jan-2025. ISSN 1692-715X. https://doi.org/10.11600/rlcsnj.22.3.6690.
This article focuses on the interpretations and disputes between generations in relation to sexuality and sex education, as part of a context involving the politicization of gender and sexuality. The study draws on interviews conducted with high school students and teachers in Córdoba, Argentina (2018- 2020), which were subject to thematic content analysis combined with narrative tools. The findings indicate that there is a widespread perception in the educational community of living in a period with increased sexual freedoms and a more plural understanding of experiences. The generational polarization between conservative adults and progressive youth is evident in abstract terms, however it becomes nuanced when concrete situations are considered. Significant factors that shape emotional responses to the teaching of sex education include the control exerted over educational practices in different socio-institutional contexts, as well as the issue of trust.
