Child sexual abuse is a serious global problem. It is extremely difficult for victims to disclose these experiences, particularly in institutional contexts and without family support. The authors of this study sought to understand the experiences of reporting abuse in residential settings in Chile and the institutional responses after disclosure based on the perspective of adult survivors and treating psychologists. A descriptive exploratory qualitative study was conducted constructing a purposive sample using snowball sampling. Indepth interviews were conducted with six adult survivors and eight treating psychologists. The interpretative phenomenological analysis facilitated the emergence of twelve analytical categories that identify factors that hinder and delay disclosure, as well as perceived responses from the immediate environment. The recommendations made by the authors are designed to generate mechanisms that facilitate disclosure in these spaces and guarantee access to rights.
