Abstract

CHICA-APOLO, Ambar; CASTILLO-NUNEZ, Jéssica Ercilia; PALACIOS-JERVES, Sofia  and  LARGO, Rommel. Parents' perceptions of comprehensive sexuality education for children in Cuenca, Ecuador. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2025, vol.23, n.2, pp.90-110.  Epub July 28, 2025. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/rlcsnj.23.2.6674.

This study explores parents' perceptions regarding the provision of Comprehensive Sexuality Education for children aged 6-12 in Cuenca, Ecuador. A quantitative methodology was used by the research team through conducting a survey with 783 participants whose children study in four public schools. The analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential tools available in the SPSS and RStudio software programs. The results show that parents value the provision of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in schools, even though they perceive children's sexuality negatively, linking it to risk factors such as sexual abuse instead of sexual pleasure, diversity or emotions. There were significant differences in the results based on different combinations of variables such as educational level, gender, religion, and prior experience with Comprehensive Sexuality Education.

Keywords : Perceptions; parents; children/girls; comprehensive sexual education.
