Abstract
NORENA-HERRERA, Camilo; MUNOZ-ECHEVERRI, Iván Felipe and PEREZ-BEDOYA, Valentina. Rights violations in young people who have been released from care in Colombia. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2025, vol.23, n.2, pp.135-160. Epub July 30, 2025. ISSN 1692-715X. https://doi.org/10.11600/rlcsnj.23.2.6650.
Juveniles in exile need to be recognized in state policies and, in Colombia, knowledge of their conditions and life experiences is limited. When leaving the programs, this population may experience new rights violations. The objective is to understand the situations of threat and violation of rights experienced by young people in the National Family Welfare System in Colombia. Youth participatory action research was developed, workshops and interviews were conducted with young people and professionals of the system and a survey of 135 young graduates was carried out. It was found that 59% of the young people who had been exempted from the system experienced stigmatization, discrimination, violence, uprooting from the territory and life on the streets. In conclusion, the physical, mental and moral integrity of young people in exile is undermined and requires attention from the Colombian state.
