VARGAS GALLO, Juan Pablo. Effect of the AIRE Course in the Tracheal Intubation Technique for the Adult Patient at the Emergency Room. Rev. Cienc. Salud [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.3, pp.24-32. ISSN 1692-7273.
Physicians in charge of the emergency airway management could take advantage of the specific training in this field like the AIRE course. Objectives: To establish if the training that the AIRE course offers makes a difference in the orotraqueal intubation's technique. Methods: Prospective interventional study. The theoretical knowledge of the participants in intubation technique and in rapid sequence of intubation (RSI), were evaluated, before and after the training The number of intubation's attempts, the time required for a successful intubation, and the laryngeal view using RSI were measured. Results: The final time of intubation was reduced in 28 seconds (p = 0.010); the percentage of success at the first attempt was 93.1%, compared to the initial value of 75% (p = 0.047); the final grade of laryngeal view were I: 75.9%, II: 24.1%, while the initial grades were I: 32.3%, II: 48.2% and III: 10.3% (p = 0,000). The final grade obtained by the participants in the writing test was 1.91 higher than the initial grade (p = 0,000). Conclusions: The AIRE course significantly improves the airway management technique, making it a useful tool for the entire emergency staff.
