Abstract

RIVERA-RUJANA, Diana María; VILLAQUIRAN-HURTADO, Andrés; VERNAZA-PINZON, Paola  and  PORTILLA-DORADO, Enmanuel. Static Postural Control and Core Stability in High Performance Athletes. Rev. Cienc. Salud [online]. 2024, vol.22, n.3, a12106.  Epub Sep 06, 2024. ISSN 1692-7273.  https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/revsalud/a.12106.

Objective:

The main purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between static postural control and Core stability in high performance athletes from the department of Cauca.

Method:

Descriptive study, carried out on 20 high performance athletes with projection to the National Sports Games 2019, who underwent static postural control evaluation in third dimension and Core stability assessment by means of surface electromyographic recording.

Results:

We found in the sagittal and frontal planes the presence of kyphosis below 30° and scoliotic curvatures below 10°, as well as the difference in the alignment of the calcaneus between right and left of 8.36°. Regarding the Core, a deficit in resistance (time) was found in the tests: prone bridge, lateral bridge, extensor resistance and flexor resistance, in addition, a statistically significant relationship was evidenced between core stability, spine alignment, pelvis and ankle (p ≤ 0.05) with high magnitude of association.

Conclusions:

Core stability is related to static postural control in spine, pelvis and ankle, evidencing the need to implement preventive programs for athletes to take care of their health and decrease the incidence of injury.
