Abstract

OSSA H, Diana Marcela  and  ZAPATA, Dioni Mabel. Evaluation of zinc sulfide leaching in laboratory tests. Prospect. [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.1, pp.100-106. ISSN 1692-8261.  https://doi.org/10.15665/rp.v16i1.846.

It was evaluated the Zn of leaching from sphalerite ore concentrates, using an acidophilic strains. The locals of mineralogical sampling showed intensive weathering, evidenced by the generation of iron oxides, oxihydroxides, sulphates stalactites, stalagmites and crosts, in roofs and walls, in a wet environment, with high water percolation. All acidophilic cultures displaying sulphide oxidation ability, but showing significant differences in it activities and kinetics. This feature provides judgment methodology for the selection of the best strain to work in other scales. In this study, the San Antonio isolated had high leaching efficiency of Zn, up to about 35.000 ppm at 100 h, using 5%w/v of sphalerite/pyrite ore concentrates. Finally, the test showed a decrease of Zn with increased in a pulp solids concentration up to 10% w/v.

Keywords : Zn leaching; Native acidophilic strain; Mining from Caldas (Colombia); Pyrite; Sphalerite.
