Abstract

ARANGO, Sergio; PAZ, Alejandro  and  DUQUE, María del Pilar. METHODOLOGICAL PROPOSAL FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR OF A METALLIC RACK. Rev.EIA.Esc.Ing.Antioq [online]. 2009, n.12, pp.139-154. ISSN 1794-1237.

Seismic engineering has been responsible of proposing design methods to ensure that structures behave according to defined limit states during their lifetime and to fulfill the function for which they were designed. This article proposes a methodology to be applied to the design of steel storage racks based on a design philosophy for seismic performance, considering the demands for seismic design in Colombia. This article gives elements to analyze their structural behavior for different seismic demands, defined according to the use they will have and leaving an open door to make suggestions and adjustments as may be required to existing designs to ensure the meeting of the performance objectives proposed for the structure, improving the efficiency of the rack’s designs, their market competitiveness, and in turn obtaining safer structures.

Keywords : steel racks; seismic performance; structural design.
