Abstract

GUERRERO BARBOSA, Thomas Edison; CANTILLO, Víctor  and  CAMARGO, Sindry. MODELING INTERCITY PASSENGER TRIPS IN LOW DEMAND INTERMODAL SYSTEMS. Rev.EIA.Esc.Ing.Antioq [online]. 2013, n.20, pp.101-110. ISSN 1794-1237.

Frequently transportation planners require evaluating the impact of alternatives proposed to improve the level of service for passengers in intercity low demand corridors. That is the case of the Middle Magdalena corridors, in Colombia, where there are three modes interacting: road, river and rail. For planning such systems we propose a methodological approach that involves taking direct information on ports, terminals and on board vehicles, including revealed preferences (PR) and stated preference (PD) surveys. During the modeling process it was specified an intermodal network that required an inventory of the services and the infrastructure. An important aspect is that the methodological approach allowed the combination of different sources, coming from aggregated data and PR as PD individual surveys. The experience on the field shows that it may have trouble in the specifications in the models when interactions in the attributes or effects of variables not properly affect individual choices. The application demonstrates that subjective perceptions are strongly associated with a mode of transportation that significantly affect the choice.
