Abstract
MATSUMOTO, Tsunao and SANCHEZ O., Iván. PERFORMANCE MONITORING AND BATIMETRIC SURVEY OF THE NEVES PAULISTA (SÃO PAULO, BRASIL) SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT. Rev.EIA.Esc.Ing.Antioq [online]. 2013, n.20, pp.139-151. ISSN 1794-1237.
The main objectives of this work were to evaluate the performance of the sewage treatment plant of Neves Paulista during the different yearly climatic seasons and to diagnose the sludge accumulation in its anaerobic and facultative waste stabilization ponds. Different water quality parameters on the plant influent and effluent, in 3 stages of collection of 3-month long each were measured, bathymetric survey of the lagoons for estimate the sludge accumulation volumes and a 24 consecutive hours affluent flow monitoring were conducted. The average BOD removal efficiency was 73.9% and the faecal coliforms removal was less than 2 logarithmic units. The accumulated sludge represented almost 25% of the lagoons effective volume reducing their hydraulic detention times. The plant requires the set up of a pre-treatment system, the controlled sludge accumulated removal of the most critical zones and the implementation of a post treatment system to guarantee additional organic matter removal and fecal coliforms in order to met the Brazilian environmental regulations.
