Abstract

This paper shows a research done about the present status and experiences of Project Management Office (PMO) implementation within some organizations of Medellin city, in order to gather learned lessons that could be used later as a base to propose effective project management methodologies. Firstly, a study of available literature regarding definitions, models, functions, roles and maturity levels of PMO, was carried out result were used to design an interview that was applied to PMO directors’ of selected organizations of Medellin City. Once the interviews were applied, an analysis of the gathered information was done, so each PMO was assessed regarding functions, roles and model, which led to classify them into a rating scale to determine their performance level. Then, according to the results, they were identified the learned lessons regarding implementation of PMO, were identified highlighting conclusions and recommendations about key success factors.
