The purpose of this paper is to present a brief description of the categories of Liberation Theology and the Pedagogy of the Oppressed, the two understandings as surgical currents in the Latin American contexts, where the first is characterized by the emergence of theology From a new reading of the gospel and a critical approach to Marxist thought interpreted in a contextual way, the Pedagogy of the Oppressed is approached from Freire, where the means of educational action understood in a critical way seeks that the oppressed be recognized as such an opportunity to find ways of emancipation from oppressor structures. In this way, understanding the generalities of Liberation Theology and the Pedagogy of the Oppressed, one can identify some points of encounter that allow to articulate the reflection about liberation, for the essential is the development around the categories of poor and oppressed because they emerge as the center of reflection of both movements that enable political action as a means by which liberation is achieved.
