Abstract

GIRALDO DIAZ, REINALDO. The Power and Resistance in Michel Foucault. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2006, n.4, pp.103-122. ISSN 1794-2489.

This paper analyzes the concepts of power and resistance in Michel Foucault‘s books during his genealogic period. Specifically, after his book L’ordre du discours, a programatic text, until his first volume of The History of Sexuality: An Introduction. The paper deals with Foucault‘s conception about power in disciplinary and controlling societies. Unlike critics of Foucault maintain, this paper does not consider resistance to be negative nor reactive. Our hypothesis states that the concept of resistance by Foucault is creative and productive and has precedence before power.

Keywords : Life; resistance; creation; power; bio-power; bio-politics; governability; disciplinary society; controlling societies.
