Abstract

RUBIANO, ELKIN. Scene, Seat and Ticket: The Cultural Market in Cultural Journalism. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2006, n.5, pp.129-148. ISSN 1794-2489.

Through a statistical analysis of content, the present study intends to investigate which definition of “culture” is constructed in the cultural pages of magazines and newspapers of national circulation. The results of the study show that there is a tight relationship between the economical aspect of culture and the cultural pages. This relationship prevents other possibilities of understanding culture (plurality, conflict, process), which would indicate that the professional practice of cultural journalism shows a minimal or even nonexistent autonomy: culture, as an event, is subordinate to the economical logic of cultural industries.

Keywords : Cultural pages; cultural journalism; cultural industries.
