Abstract

SOLA MORALES, Salomé. Mediatic memory and identity construction. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2013, n.19, pp.301-314. ISSN 1794-2489.

Abstract This paper presents a theoretical framework for the study of relations between mass media and memory from a psycho-social and a communicative perspective. As it is well known, mediatic narratives play a fundamental role in the construction of shared memory. But, can media build a memory beyond subjects or collectives themselves? our main pressuposition is that mediatic memory is a multi-dimensional phenomenon affecting identity creation and transformation. Our main conclusion up to present is that in order to deeply understand how a culture or a community operate, it is necessary to analyze the way they are configured, preserved, and their own cultural, communicative and mediatic memories.

Keywords : memory; media; identities.
