ARANEDA TAPIA, Jorge. ILLUSIONS AND SUFFERINGS OF EMIGRATION. THE CASE OF LEVANTINE ARABIC, MUSLIM IMMIGRANTS TO CHILE 1930-1950. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2015, n.22, pp.125-146. ISSN 1794-2489.
This paper analyses the collective practices of Arab Muslim immigrants, in the period going from their arrival in Chile from 1930 through 1950, and their subsequent settlement. These practices are a proof of their efforts to perpetuate and preserve their traditions, such as language, religious rites and practices, along with social organization. These circumstances, even though similar to those of their Levantine orthodox Catholics encountered bigger hindrances, as Muslims were in lesser number withing the whole Arab population in Chile. Secondly, one of the most important rites for Muslims come to America and continuously striving to preserve their creed, as the celebration of Ramadan will be analysed.
