This article presents some outcomes of a qualitative research performed throughout 2021 and 2022 on teacher’s discourses in social work programs provided in the Colombian Western-Pacific region. Research work focused on the milieu and its relation to professional identity formation throughout training. The epistemological, theoretical, and methodological axes were identified, as well as their classical and emerging aspects coexisting and seemingly intent to respond to the claims of the milieu, without losing identity elements characterizing social work history along the way. The importance of milieu in training is related to social workers’ intervention and interaction, and to the individual interacting in their social environment.

Keywords : Epistemological approach; theoretical approach; methodological approach; social work; professional training.
