Abstract

PARODY, Viviana. Extent of Multiculturalism (and the Economy of Culture) on Intangible Heritage. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2023, n.47, pp.189-209.  Epub Nov 02, 2023. ISSN 1794-2489.  https://doi.org/10.25058/20112742.n47.08.

This article addresses the intersections between “intangible heritage”, multiculturalism(s), capital flows. Drawing on the emblematic case of San Basilio de Palenque (Colombia), this article accounts for community cultural economies (and effectively lived materialities) to compare them against State-adopted approaches like “the orange economy” that characterized the neoliberal government that just came to an end in 2022. We highlight some avenues through which market rationales concerning culture have made its way in San Basilio by the hands of manifold agents, thus giving rise to subjectivation processes preceding (while overlapping) processes of acknowledgement of heritage and recognition. Beyond for-or-against approaches on heritage and/or multiculturalism, we were able to point out the dissimilar technologies of difference operating as an underlying layer in this dynamic.

Keywords : multiculturalism(s); intangible heritage; economie(s) of culture; subjectivation processes..
