Resumen

GALLARDO TERAN, Roberto. Disorder, victimization and fear: an exploratory study about the relationship between disorder perception and crime in Chile. Rev. Crim. [online]. 2014, vol.56, n.3, pp.25-43. ISSN 1794-3108.

An empirical analysis is developed around the factors serving to explain disorder perception in Chile. From data contributed by the "Indice Paz Ciudadana 2012" index, discreet choice (probit) models are built, using as a dependent variable the probability that individuals are likely to perceive disorder in their environment. Results let maintain that victimization and fear are always meaningful in the explanation of disorder perception, as much as gender (males) and age (young). Likewise, it has been observed that both the complexity and amount of disorders perceived tend to vary depending on the socioeconomic and the educational level attained, and how the performance of the police and knowledge of a specific local security policy are assessed.

Palabras clave : Public disorder; victimization; criminal policy; police services to the community.
