Abstract

RAMIREZ VILLADA, Jhon Fredy. Health promotion and disease prevention in the elderly from an integrative research perspective. Hallazgos [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.20, pp.109-122. ISSN 1794-3841.  https://doi.org/10.15332/s1794-3841.2013.0020.07.

This paper presents a critical, reflective and purposeful position about the importance of bringing together interdisciplinary work of the empirical sciences (human and natural sciences) and the field of public health, specifically in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention in the elderly. It addresses, as its argumentative axis, movement considering it an act of expression of the cognitive, emotional and physical spheres, through which humans communicate with their nearest environment (subjects and objects). This articulation must not only be assessed clinically or functionally, but must also be redefined to enrich physical activity programs and dignify them as care settings for other components, such as the cognitive, emotional, social and interpersonal ones. In this sense, we explain why it is essential that empirical perspectives build a dialogue oriented to take care of the mind and the body, so that practices are humanized through movement.

Keywords : promotion; prevention; health; elderly; public health; movement; physical activity.
