Abstract

ARANGO, Oscar Javier. A Qohélet's lecture. Hallazgos [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.22, pp.263-285. ISSN 1794-3841.  https://doi.org/10.15332/s1794-3841.2014.0022.14.

This dissertation on Qohelet or Ecclesiastes, book of the sapiential canon, is the result of an amateur reading that began years ago and was transformed into an object of study. My reading was more literary than theological, which leave out of my reach an important part of the book. However, the lack of expertise gave me the opportunity to search other theoretical ways to approach the text. My analysis is limited to make an intuitive reading of the sapiential form in the book of Ecclesiastes -based on the special relationships between experience, reflection and expression, which, according to the proposed reading, are peculiar to the sapiential literature- and thus to propose a definition of the formal basis of this genre based on its purpose, namely: the search for ethics. The proposal attends to the idea that "the Bible is the foundation of all Western literature". Yet paradoxically, the academic knowledge of the Bible comes more from the oral tradition, than from reading or studying the text itself.

Keywords : Qohélet; Eclesiastes; sapiential canon; Bible.
