Abstract

RAMIREZ MENESES, Aurora; CALDERON BOLAINA, Vinicio; HERNANDEZ CHONTAL, Mario Alejandro  and  LOPEZ CASTANEDA, Antonio. Use of medicinal plants for conditions caused by COVID-19 in Cárdenas, Tabasco, Mexico. Hallazgos [online]. 2024, vol.21, n.41, pp.211-241.  Epub Jan 30, 2024. ISSN 1794-3841.  https://doi.org/10.15332/2422409x.9552.

We sought to know the resonance around the use of medicinal plants for COVID-19 conditions in the Ranchería Paso y Playa, Cárdenas, Tabasco, Mexico, assuming that, “the resonance at the family level is more related to the economic system, health and political". The theory of social systems was used as an analytical strategy, supported by second-order observation. The study units were: decisions and themes. A mixed approach was chosen. The sampling was intentional, aimed at ten families, applying semi-structured interviews during May to July 2022. A contraction of the family system was obtained due to COVID-19, changes in family roles according to job possibilities; interpenetration of the environment, with those coming from the World Health Organization resounding more, being: “it starts like a common cold, very contagious that affects lifestyle, which becomes difficult to cure and therefore can cause death.” And regarding the use of medicinal plants with the greatest resonance were: lemon, guava and momo tea, used as home and preventive remedies. 90% of families receive government support, whose programs have not reduced negative resonances, such as COVID-19, since community knowledge is made invisible.

Keywords : thematization; structural link; autopoiesis; resonance; COVID-19.
