Abstract

The new partnership for Africa's development (NEPAD). Rev. Lasallista Investig. [online]. 2008, vol.5, n.1, pp.72-86. ISSN 1794-4449.

African presidents, after the transformation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) into African Union, proposed the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), as a framework for a new associative relationship between Africa and the international community. Under this new association character, African leaders have devoted themselves to promote their countries in the region and the continent, peace, security, democracy, good governance, respect of human rights and a healthy economic management as a strategy to lead Africa's development in the 21st Century. NEPAD produced a positive reaction in the rest of the world. NEPAD is based on sustainable development principles for the continent. Without them, it is possible to achieve concrete results. Among these principle we can remark democracy and good governance. To achieve this goal, NEPAD proposes new institutional initiatives, such as the use of evaluation meansthat allow the real establishment of good governance into the structures of the states.
