Abstract

SALAS-ZAPATA, Walter Alfredo; RIOS-OSORIO, Leonardo Alberto  and  ALVAREZ-DEL CASTILLO, Javier. Conceptual bases for a classification of socioecological systems in sustainability research. Rev. Lasallista Investig. [online]. 2011, vol.8, n.2, pp.136-142. ISSN 1794-4449.

In sustainability research the range of social-ecological systems is so wide that many times the concept of sustainability can only have a real meaning if it is related to the particular system studied, bringing a variety of ways to understand sustainability that can, very frequently, be contradictory. Research about sustainability would not be able to theorize if each research work and paper is based on a different sustainability concept. This essay proposes a classification of socioecological systems in order to demonstrate how all of them can be analyzed under a sustainability concept.

Keywords : sustainable development; socioecological resilience; research; sustainability concept.
