Abstract

MARCOS, Alfredo. Experimentation with animals: philosophical perspectives. Rev. Lasallista Investig. [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.1, pp.11-22. ISSN 1794-4449.

The objective of this text is to discuss the philosophical base of the bioethical principles that must regulate experiments with animals. The thesis on the issue is that such base must be seeked in the value of the animals. This kind of base, as I will defend in my argumentation, is more solid than its alternative, usually formulated in terms of the rights of the animals and the equality between humans and animals. As a contraposition, when a clinical research work about humans is developed, the dignity of people must be taken as a moral base.

Keywords : experiments with animals; dignity; value; research ethics.
