JARAMILLO ECHAVARRIA, Raúl Andrés. Citizenship, national identity and nation-state. Rev. Lasallista Investig. [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.2, pp.168-180. ISSN 1794-4449.

The nation-state concept as an imagined community has gained relevance in the literature during the last decade. How can national identity be built? What is understood as citizenship? These questions will be analyzed in this paper. By the use of a description and an analysis of these phenomena, we will focus on the discursive construction of citizenship. By focusing on the construction of citizenship and (national) identity, this study opens a new perspective of the historical-discursive analysis, which so far has only been focused on the discursive construction concerning difference

Keywords : discursive act; popular self-government; citizen; citizenship; imagined community; political community; nation-state; nationality.
