Abstract

Introduction. The firs results of a still in progress research work are introduced in this exposition. The research problems approached are the paths students go through in the technological platform when they are coursing r higher education programs. Doing research about the place of higher education and the potential of new information and communication technologies in university processes is positive. Objetive. The general objectives of this research work are describing and analyzing the characteristics of the paths developed by students in the technological platform, identifying different learning ways. Materials and methods. The design of this research work is a mixed, descriptive and sequentially executed focus. The data collection techniques are: surveys, physical or virtual interviews and tracking to the EPIC/SAM technological platform. The research work is performed within the Ilumno- América Latina Network. Results. This time the first results of the surveys are approached by focusing on the sociodemographic references of the population studied, their previous experiences using IT for learning purposes, the reasons why they chose online courses, their opinions about their navigation in the platform and the meanings given to the different learning levels. Conclusion. The mode of online learning (e -learning) has several positive aspects: allows students hold their own pace , serves variety of training demands , provides an educational tour to persons whose place of residence would not agree to another form , enriches the proposal with the combination of multimedia resources broaden the available time student and expands the educational spaces that not only reduce the physical classroom.
