Abstract
EHRENZWEIG SANCHEZ, Yamilet. Social cognition models and therapeutic adherence in patients with cancer. Av. Psicol. Latinoam. [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.1, pp.07-21. ISSN 1794-4724.
Due to the high levels of uncertainty that they produce, cancer treatments are definitely part of the toughest interventions to carry on. Knowing the serious nature of this condition is generally negative for the patient with cancer and can affect the patients willingness to receive therapy. This is the reason why many patients are not interested on following the therapies instructions and do not adhere to the treatments. This study shows all kind of factors that influence the therapeutic adherence in patients with cancer and illustrates an experiment made with two groups of women who had this disease. The first group was made up of poor women who were treated in a public hospital and the second one consisted on women who received therapy in a private hospital. Even though cancer is a very intimidating disease, not all the patients mentioned following the instructions of curative treatments.
