Abstract

OSORIO GUZMAN, Maricela. Psychological perspective on children’s health in holistic programs for pediatric patients with leukemia: sharing a Mexican experience. Av. Psicol. Latinoam. [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.1, pp.81-110. ISSN 1794-4724.

This article has a general theoretical support on health psychology, but it focuses on child health psychology. The line of research focuses chronic illnesses from a biopsychosocial perspective. There is data that demonstrates the effectiveness of psychological interventions in hospitals. This research shows that holistic programs foment the quality of life on pediatric patients with leukemia. Approaching leukemia is essential because it is the most frequent disease in the pediatric population and psychological programs to support these children and their families are few. Increasing research in this area represents the impact and possibilities of holistic programs in different institutions by including psychological programs and demonstrating that multidisciplinary intervention is the best option.

Keywords : leukemia; child health psychology; quality of life; holistic psychological programs; biopsychosocial perspective.
