Abstract

GOMEZ SOSA, María Yanet. Political ideologies behind the literary mask. Co-herencia [online]. 2008, vol.5, n.8, pp.117-148. ISSN 1794-5887.

To begin with, the purpose is to bring forth latent political ideologies ingrained in the discursive weavings of two Colombian novels from the XIX century Regeneration Period: De Sobremesa by Jose Asuncion Silva and El Moro by Jose Manuel Marroquín. In order to achieve that, the figure of the mask is used as one of the ways in which fictional discourse has some bearing on historical discourse. If the mask is unveiled it is not so that the truth emerges but so that its tales meet head-on the tales of history. Thus the literary work becomes record, its discursivity re-creates history.

Keywords : Regeneration; Rafael Nunez; ideology; social differentiation; civil wars; masks; mask as historic metaphor; fiction; XIX century Colombian literature; literary discourse.
