Abstract

VELEZ UPEGUI, Mauricio. On hermeneutics in antique Greece. Co-herencia [online]. 2009, vol.6, n.10, pp.79-96. ISSN 1794-5887.

From the idea that hermeneutics in Ancient Greece admits to be considered essentially as a practical activity, the text, first, explores and explains the diverse nuances of meaning that the word hermenéuein entails (as an expression, as an elucidation and in translation). Second, the text fuses the three traces into two and determines the way in which both resonate in homeric poems, some socratic dialogs and certain aristotelic treaties. Finally, the text suggests a series of connections between the old hermeneutics and some concepts that make part of the contemporary pragmatic analysis.

Keywords : Old hermeneutics; expression; elucidation; translation; language; pragmatic analysis.
