Resumen

ESPINOSA ANTON, Francisco Javier. The individuals in the multitude. Co-herencia [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.28, pp.183-207. ISSN 1794-5887.  https://doi.org/10.17230/co-herencia.15.28.8.

The Spinoza’s political philosophy is based on the concepts of potentia and multitude, since political power is defined, according to him, by the potentia of the multitude. A strong cohesion of the multitude is basic to have political power. But this cohesion does not derive from a homogeneity of individuals. On the contrary, the strength of the multitude depends on the richness and the diversity of their individuals, together with the union that the search for the common good provides. Thus, the plurality and the richness of diverse, autonomous and critical individuals do not weaken political communities (but they strengthen them), neither individuality is lost in the multitude, but it becomes stronger.
