Abstract

SAMACA, Gabriel David  and  ACEVEDO TARAZONA, Alonso Álvaro. From the reform of Cordoba to Cordobazo The university as an arena of struggle for democracy in Argentina, 1918-1969 and its impact on Colombia. memorias [online]. 2011, n.15, pp.170-195. ISSN 1794-8886.

The purpose of this paper is to share a reflection on the significance of two social movements involving college students which took place in the city of Córdoba (Argentina) and had great significance for Latin America. The first is known in continental history as the early 20th century University Reform, an event that laid the foundations for the democratization of Latin American universities, while the second movement is representative of tensions existing by the sixties, a period through which the students movement underwent a process of leftist radicalization in the framework of a cultural revolution of global impact. The influence of these events in Colombia, was especially remarkable at the beginning of the century and led to the university mobilization at different moments across the first half of 20th century. Similarly, our universities were not outsiders to the wave of protests and radicalization of the sixties. Thus, the text consists of a description of each of the above events and a small digression on the Colombian case to conclude with a final reflection on its historical significance.

Keywords : Cordobazo; student movement; strike; protest.
