Abstract
MALKUN CASTILLEJO, William. Books, libraries, and readers in the Bolivar Grande (Colombia) in the XIX century. memorias [online]. 2013, n.19, pp.175-203. ISSN 1794-8886.
In this work, the uses and appropriations of the books that 19th-century readers did in the region of the Bolivar Grande, is traced. It also identified the social and material use of the books and the construction of public libraries. Questions about how were the books read?, under what circumstances were the books read?, and what were the books read for? will allow people to observe what the reading contexts were and the areas in which the books circulated. For the purposes of this article, libraries, textbooks, books, and newspapers are seen as cultural objects that allow people to identify breaks and changes in the society in which they were issued and used. In this sense, we consider it reveals the uses given to them, the spaces in which reading practices and procedures were moved and displayed and, in general, the type of links established by readers and non readers with print culture.
