The overall objective of this article is to reflect about the challenges of the tourism sector to promote gender equality and empowerment of women. Emphasises the feminization of poverty as a key dimension of analysis to sustainability in tourism. Through the mains results of the project about child sex exploitation in tourism of the Foundation Terres des Hommes-Lausanne in Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, are noted some of the issues to keep in mind to the development of tourism from a gender perspective.
