Abstract

GUERRERO MOSQUERA, Andrea. African cultural mirror: Images of the kingdoms of Congo and Angola in the Caribbean Coast of the kingdom of New Granada. memorias [online]. 2014, n.23, pp.153-179. ISSN 1794-8886.

This research aimed to analyze the writings on Africa made during the seventeenth century, in order to enter the imaginary that sketched about the cultures of the kingdoms of Congo and Angola, in order to establish interconnections with the kingdom of New Granada. In this paper was used the texts of the Capuchins and Giovanni António Cavazzi Antonio de Teruel. These texts are written discourses from the perspective of the observed, and under the stewardship of a historic African-anthropological discourse; is a Eurocentric and Catholic image that permeated Europe in the Indies. With these texts, I tried scrutinizing the Black Atlantic Studies with what has been achieved, from images, interpreting and making a confrontation with the cultural heritage manifested in the writings of the period and to establish that imaginary arrived from Africa New kingdom of Granada.
