This article deals with the historical experience of intercultural education in the Colombian Caribbean. This accounts for the close relationship between ethnic education, multiculturalism and the struggle for equality and recognition that had to fight African descent and indigenous people, who seek to advance in the construction of educational spaces of affirmation and respect for diversity. Spaces which seeks to contribute, inter alia, to overcome marginalization, exclusion, displacement and violence they have been subjected to over time ethnic minorities in the region.
