Abstract

BACKX SANABRIA, Isabela Soraia. Perceptions and interpretations of humanism in the American Museum of Man. memorias [online]. 2015, n.27, pp.72-106. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.27.7535.

This article presents an analysis of the permanent exhibition of the Museum of American Man (Piauí - Brazil), an institution dedicated for the communication of the results for more than forty years of archaeological research carried out in the Sierra de Capivara National Park. The park has the largest concentration of archaeological sites in the Americas and was registered by UNESCO in 1991 on the list of Cultural Heritage. In its museum, as in all others, the articulation of material culture in the exhibitions builds various speeches that are transmitted to the public by means of visual, sonouros and tactile resources. This paper focuses on the analysis of these museological practices at the Museum of American Man, analyzing the speeches on man and humanism produced in that institution.

Keywords : Museum of American Man; museum exhibitions; discourses; man; humanism.
