Abstract This article attempts to reconstruct the social uses of string literature from the experiences of Naite, a family of blacks and mulattos who has lived for more than two centuries in the Sierra del Rosario. Sheets and brochures that these farmers bought and consumed between 1940 and 1958, represent a valuable gateway to think about the impact of print culture in rural areas. In the first section issues how the circulation of texts and practices for dissemination and appropriate them are studied, then move on to analyze the melodramas known as "novels in decimas". Finally, we will investigate in the poems on political events, written by street poets who made their living by narrating the latest events.
