CANO SANCHIZ, Juan M.. Mamita Yunai, a North American fruit company in Central America: the case of Palmar Sur (Costa Rica). memorias [online]. 2017, n.33, pp.88-119. ISSN 1794-8886.
The main aim of this paper is to offer a general view on the creation and development of the banana enclaves in Central America and some countries from South America from the end of the 19th century onwards. In doing so, we focus on the specific case of Palmar Sur (Costa Rica). Our approach to the subject is based on the bibliographical review (secondary sources) and on the preliminary analysis of the material evidence of working and living at the banana plantation, with stress given to the transformation of the landscape and the apparition of new transport systems and constructive typologies. Our end goal is to reflect on the economic colonialism and globalization processes from a cultural perspective. With that, we expect to provide results different from those produced by the economic history.
