Abstract

VAZQUEZ MEDINA, HILDA. Itineraries of Dominican exile during the 1930s. memorias [online]. 2018, n.35, pp.33-54. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.35.10174.

This article analyzes the itineraries of the first exiles who left the Dominican Republic during the 1930s as a result of the political persecution of the regime of Rafael L. Trujillo Molina. The first part of this article explores the arrival of the regime's political opponents to three different places of refuge: Haiti, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. It then examines the propaganda campaign and methods the Trujillo government used against the Dominican exiles. The second part focuses on the exiled Dominicans' proposal for a united front aimed at fighting against Trujillo's regime.

Keywords : Dominican Republic; Dominican exile; antitrujillistas; Rafael L. Trujillo; dictatorship.
