The article explores, through the perspective of foreign travelers who visited the Colombian Caribbean during the 19th century, the way in which they faced the environmental conditions and the discomforts of the trip, especially the constant annoyance of the travelers mosquitoes the main. Objective is to present the way mosquitoes conditioned time, spaces and materialities. Becoming active elements that conditioned the idea of the tropics, classifying their geography according to their presence. The mosquitoes were inserted not only in the skin of the travelers, but in their stories and appreciations about the environment.
