Abstract

SILVA PRADA, Natalia. A Christmas Eve under threat: the lampoons and rumors of 1765 in the town of San Bartolomé de Honda. memorias [online]. 2021, n.43, pp.94-121.  Epub Nov 22, 2021. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.43.986.101.

This article studies the logic of a set of lampoons that were published in the town of Honda at the end of 1765. This monographic exercise seeks to find out the content of these subversive expressions, the rumors that they provoked, the parallel stories that emerge from the summary trial and the clues which they provide about the economic, political, and social tensions that may have caused them. To complete this research, the author proposes to use the methodological perspectives provided by cultural history and starts by studying the locations of the lampoons, their possible authors, and the number of lampoons in each location. The aim is to elucidate their real meaning, beyond the explicit reasons indicated by them.

Keywords : Honda; lampoons; rumors; fear; riot; state monopoly.
