Abstract
AVILA GARZON, Samuel Asdrúbal. An issue of skin?: neorracism and forcea dispiacerne!!, in Santa Marta (Colombia). memorias [online]. 2022, n.47, pp.192-218. Epub Aug 03, 2022. ISSN 1794-8886. https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.47.303.62.
Classic racism based on discrimination due to skin color has been transformed. Today, the phenotypic is just one of the characteristics of neo-racism. For people who practice it, skin color is no longer as threatening as belonging to a certain culture, having certain cultural traits, or a religion. From this ideology, belonging to a culture becomes dangerous when individuals have lived, among others, violent experiences that force them to leave their territories. In this article, based on ethnographic research carried out in 2019 on the life experiences of adolescents displaced by the armed conflict who live in Santa Marta (Colombia), it is shown how, for these individuals who have suffered the armed conflict, forced displacement converts them -in the educational institutions they enter to seek to star a new life-, into an object of ridicule, discrimination, stigmatization, and a source of threat to those who practice this new form of racism.
Keywords : neo-racism; displacement; armed conflict; Santa Marta; educational institution.
