Abstract

ENCARNACION-PINEDO, Miriam. Militancy in the poetic work of Wilfredo Mujica and Elena Yparraguirre (1994-2010). memorias [online]. 2023, n.51, pp.29-56.  Epub Jan 12, 2024. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.51.137.568.

For the Communist Party of Peru-Shining Path (PCP-SL) -which held a confrontation against the Peruvian State that cost almost 70,000 lives between 1980 and 1992-, ideology was the main vehicle for achieving the communist society they aspired to. With the purpose of reaching ideological cohesion during the conflict and, afterwards, the construction of a memory that facilitates their participation in legal politics, they promoted the creation of a specific type of art. This paper will describe the «art of a new type» through the poetic work of two PCP-SL militants: Elena Yparraguirre, second wife of Abimael Guzmán, and Wilfredo Mujica, former director of the Former Political Prisoners Association of Peru. This research will allow us to contrast the efforts of the PCP-SL with those of other Latin American movements in the formation of a poetic and ideological corpus, and to know the subversive subject firsthand.

Keywords : Shining Path; poetry; memory; ideology; politics.
