Abstract

PUPIO, MARIA ALEJANDRA et al. Materialities and traumatic memories. Case studies in Argentina. memorias [online]. 2025, n.56, pp.61-93.  Epub May 13, 2025. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.56.373.457.

The purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between materialities, spatialities, and sensory experiences for the recovery of memories of victims from clandestine detention centers in Argentina during the last civil-military dictatorship between 1976 and 1983. This analysis focuses on two of these centers in Buenos Aires, Monte Pelloni and VII Bateria. It examines how the memories of former detainees, mainly sonorous and corporal, help facilitate the recognition and reconstruction of the materiality of these clandestine centers. Validating the memory of the past lived in these processes contributes, in the first case, to justice processes, and, in the second, to the constitution of a space of memory.

Keywords : archaeology; materiality; senses; military dictatorship.
