CAMACHO BARON, Erika Andrea y CESPEDES PRIETO, Nubia Edith. Habilidades socio-emocionales: un elemento esencial en el policía como mediador en Colombia. Divers.: Perspect. Psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.2, pp.279-296. ISSN 1794-9998. https://doi.org/10.15332/s1794-9998.2018.0002.06.
This study intended to analyze the psychosocial characteristics associated with the profile of mediator police officer in Colombia. At the beginning of the process, a review was performed using specialized documentary sources, and then ground theory was used to analyze eleven interviews with experts, with the aim of having a general appreciation of the psychosocial features associated to the profile of mediation officer. Simultaneously, we carried out a transversal, descriptive, hypothetical-deductive quantitative study on the identification of life skills in secondary school students and future professional officers of the National Police. Among results, we found that mediation officers need to strengthen certain emotional, social and cognitive skills, including self-knowledge, empathy, integrity, emotional self-control and self-control under stressful situations, problem and conflict solving, effective communication, social sensitivity, critical thinking, and creativity. This serves as a basis in the training process of police officers and specialization of officers as mediators.
