Abstract

GALINDO-SALOM, Martha Madeleine; RIOS CRUZ, Sonia Gisela; ORTIZ, Eliana  and  AVENDANO-PRIETO, Bertha Lucía. Characterization of executive functions in people with bipolar affective disorder bipolar affective disorder. Divers.: Perspect. Psicol. [online]. 2024, vol.20, n.1, pp.18-32.  Epub Jan 01, 2024. Neurocognitive deficits are part of both the etiology and consequences of bipolar affective disorder (BPD). The objective of this research was to characterize the executive functioning of a sample of 103 adults diagnosed with BAD in the euthymic phase. A descriptive and comparative cross- sectional study was carried out on the scores obtained in the BANFE-2 test. The description was made with the frequency distribution of neurocognitive performance by TAB diagnostic typologies and the comparison based on statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Although the results obtained were heterogeneous, in some variables significant differences were found by diagnostic typologies; Of ten findings, in six, the type I group had better performance than the other groups in: planning processing speed, planning and visuospatial working memory, a situation that can be explained from the characteristics of this typology, which in euthymia can be faster and more functional if their condition is not more serious; Type II presented more precision in three planning variables, citing a better abstract attitude; Only in one variable of planning processing speed, the cyclothymic had a better score than type II. These findings are not conclusive, but they can be further explored as a possible indicator of the typologies at the level of their cognitive execution and to that extent adapt the interventions by bringing them closer to their clinical characteristics.

Keywords : executive functions; bipolar affective disorder; cognitive deficit; executive dysfunction.
